How the flying car works:

 

Aeromobil, a Slovakian company, realises the dream of the flying car through implementing three core science and engineering technologies.

Firstly, the materials of ththe-jetsons-1280ajpg-6473d5_1280we car. It needs to be light enough to fly but sturdy enough to be considered safe. The company achieves this by using materials like steel frames and carbon coating, two types of metal that are both light and robust.

Secondly, the build of the craft. It needs to be aerodynamic enough to achieve lift but compact enough to be able to be driven on the road. Aeromobil solves this by developing angular wings that can be folded back into the vehicle.

Thirdly, the engine of the vehicle. It needs be powerful enough to propel the vehicle into the air and can easily be refueled by the nearest gas station. The car is powered by a four-cylinder liquid and air-cooled engine that runs on standard gasoline allowing the vehicle to achieve a top speed of 200km/h in air and 160km/h on road.

 

Sound complicated? Well, if you’re a big fan of the movie transformers the car pretty much transforms from driving into flying mode. In driving mode, the car shifts power from the propellor to the rear wheels, and the wings fold back along the body of the car making it compact enough to fit into standard parking spaces.

The good news is that it will be available in 2 years, the bad news is that it could cost up to 279,000 (ouch), so start saving.
